March 2012, Cedar Mesa, Utah I came across this unnamed ruin while hiking to Fishmouth Cave on Comb Ridge. This is as colorful a ruin as I have ever encountered. I took the liberty of naming it Bowed Wall Ruin due to the obvious curvature of a large external wall not shown in this image. What really struck me about this particular ruin was how small the interior chamber was. In order to get ... Ruin Canyon Ruin Canyon is a valley in Utah and has an elevation of 6243 feet. Ruin Canyon is close to Calf Canyon. Walk through ground level Indian ruins, view beautiful Cathedral Arch, inspect a granary and gaze at several visible cliff dwellings. It is 8 miles to the end of the canyon and the same back out. Under 4 hours of driving plus numerous stops for the attractions and lunch.
Both roads should be well marked and well traveled, and will head east from Highway 191. From the intersection of Highway 191 and Road C-146 south of Monticello it is about 27 miles to the pueblo. If you take this route you will see other ruins, rock art panels, and a few "houses" blasted into the sandstone walls of Montezuma Canyon. Today we went to the Doll House Ruin. It was a long trip over by Dark Canyon, the ruin is in Woodenshoe Canyon. Here's a nice shot of the front of it in a cave. Here's a shot looking down from the back of it in the cave. Moon House Ruins Hiking Detail - hiking trail in McCloyd Canyon on Cedar Mesa, near Blanding and Mexican Hat, Utah. Moon House, one of the best archaeology sites on Cedar Mesa, consists of three separate structures with 49 rooms. Junction Ruin is located at the base of a huge alcove on the north side of the canyon. Most Anasazi ruins are similarly situated. The alcove provides shelter, and the southern exposure provides the warmth of the sun during the winter. The main group of ruins is at the base of the overhang, perhaps 50 to 75 feet above the creek. Lewis Lodge is likely one of the best, if not the best Indian ruin on Cedar Mesa. It certainly wins hands down for position. First found in 1956 by Dick Lewis, the ruin contains a complex of 44 rooms and kivas.
